"We realise that you cannot help everyone, but you can help some"

ON THIS PAGE: Gifts  /  Prayer Partners  /  Aid  /  Car share for delivering aid to Smile office  /  Wishlist  /  Fund Raisers  /  Volunteering

Listed below are ways you can help Smile and we pray that as you read through the areas of need, you will discover a window of opportunity for you. We need people to support us prayerfully, financially and practically. Every contribution, whether it be large or small, will help us to help others. If you would like further information on how you can help support Smile International, or to request a speaker for your church, school or meeting, please contact the Smile office.

We would like to thank everyone who gives so generously to support our ministry

GIFTS

Smile International relies on the generosity of its supporters, people like you, for its work. As a registered charity, number 1079730, we are dependent on voluntary income, and through general donations we are able to respond quickly whenever a need arises, and well as continue our work helping to tackle the underlying causes of poverty. If you wish to donate to Smile, full details are on our Donations page.

PRAYER PARTNERS

If you would like to pray for the work of Smile on a regular basis, why not become a Smile Prayer Partner? You will be kept informed of our prayer needs through our monthly Prayer Calendar which can be posted, or emailed to you as a Word document. We can also send you email updates inbetween the Calendars. The text of the current month's Calendar is published on the Prayer Partners page where you may also download the Calendar as a Word document. We greatly esteem and value the advantage the Lord intends us to gain through this largely unseen activity and would like to thank all those who continue to support our ministry in this way.

AID

We are very grateful to all our supporters who have given aid and Christmas shoeboxes, and knitted clothes, blankets and toys. Full details of types of aid required is on the Aid Guidelines page. The cost of sending the aid by truck from London to the Balkans is approximately £3,000

CAR SHARE FOR DELIVERING AID TO THE SMILE OFFICE IN KENT

Smile supporters! – If you are coming to the Smile office in Orpington, Kent, and have some spare room in your car, you might like to consider helping us with our aid delivery. If you can help in this way, or if you are donating aid to Smile, you should contact your Regional Coordinator who can make the appropriate arrangements for the aid to be collected. You will be helping Smile, saving petrol and conserving environment!

WISHLIST

We invite you to view our Wish List page which details some of our present needs, over and above our normal aid requirements.

VOLUNTEERING

If you are able to volunteer your time, gifts and talents in any way, then please contact us. We would appreciate help in the following areas:

TRUSTEES

Responsible for directing the affairs of the charity, and ensuring that it is solvent, well-run, and delivering the charitable outcomes for the benefit of the people for whom it has been set up.

This is a three-year appointment. We would like to add two new Trustees to the Board. Those appointed must share Smile’s Christian ethos and be in agreement with our statement of beliefs. We are looking particularly for people who have experience of strategic planning, finance, marketing, communications, fundraising or project management; though people with other relevant skills are welcome to express an interest. If you would like to be considered, please send in a covering letter, outlining why you would like to join the Board of Trustees, what skills you are able to contribute, along with your C.V., to Ruth Doubleday, Director.

LOCAL COORDINATORS   To be area representatives for their church/region/country, to help raise the profile of Smile and organise publicity and fundraising.

If you are interested in helping us in this way, please contact Ruth Doubleday for further information and an application form.

LOCAL AND AREA FUND RAISERS   To stimulate local awareness and interest in supporting Smile.

This work is ongoing throughout the year, but we hope you could organise 3 fundraising events in your area per annum. To help raise Smile's profile in your area, we have speakers available for meetings/groups, who can show video clips and Powerpoints on the work of Smile. Please contact us if you are interested on 01689 870932 or info@smileinternational.org. See our Fundraising page for more information and fundraising ideas.

SPEAKERS AND TRAINERS   To help with our many requests for people to talk about the work of Smile in schools, churches and other groups.

We particularly need former teachers to go into schools and preachers for Sunday service requests and those who could help to brief our trippers. Help with this is needed throughout the year. The peak of schools work is during the Autumn term, and most requests are for day-time speakers.

EXHIBITION HELPERS   To assemble and man Smile stands at various events.

We need suitable volunteers for events like the Christian Resources Exhibition, Soul Survivor and New Wine.

CLERICAL SUPPORT   A range of office support tasks such as reception, telephone, typing, filing, at our Orpington Office.

This help is needed throughout the year.

ASSISTANT BOOKKEEPER   Donations are recorded throughout the year and help with inputting and processing would be appreciated.

This would ideally be someone with a good working knowledge of Sage and Excel.

DRIVERS AND VEHICLES   To collect aid and shoeboxes from donors around the UK.

We also need lorries and drivers several times a year to take aid to the Balkans. Help is needed throughout the year, but our peak need is September to December.

COMPUTER SUPPORT   To check over donated PCs before they are sent overseas.

The help needed is periodic as we get batches of donated computers from schools and offices.

KNITTERS   To make blankets, hats, gloves, scarves and children’s jumpers for emergency aid and needy families in the Balkans.

Knitted goods are needed throughout the year and we have a knitting pattern booklet you can download.

SORTERS AND PACKERS   Checking and packing aid and shoeboxes.

The peak need is for our shoebox season from September to December. Our prime need is sorting at the Smile office in Orpington, but we also need sorters and packers around the country.

STORAGE SPACE   For storing aid and shoeboxes pending collection for transport to our main sorting office.

Our peak need is in the Autumn. Our main requirement is for storage/warehouse space in the Orpington area, but we also need interim storage around the country.

LORRY LOADING   Loading aid onto lorries for transport to those in need.

Keep an eye on our website for lorry loading dates or give us your contact details and we will alert you to our next loading day.

GARDENER   To maintain the gardens at our Orpington Office.

Help needed is seasonal and mainly grass cutting.
