Smile began working in India in 2005, in response to requests for help from several ministries after the tsunami crisis. We were able to send funds to help Good News Ministry in Vijayawada, Tribal Baptist Ministries in Nellore, and the Hosanna Children’s Home in Cumbum.

Smile’s main partner is Pastor Samuel of End Time Harvest Ministries in Bangalore, who was greatly involved in helping those suffering after the tsunami. Samuel ministers at Jalahalli East Baptist Church and has an extensive social action programme in slums of Bangalore. He works tirelessly for the Lord despite shortage of funds and materials.

Smile has helped to build a church office, guest suite and kitchen, redecorated the Sunday School room and improved facilities in the sanctuary by providing fans, keyboards, audio/visual equipment and computer. Smile would like to further support Pastor Samuel’s ministry by providing:

Pastor Samuel with Rev Clive Doubleday

  • Regular income to support him and his family, to enable him to give his full attention to his ministry duties

  • Ministry materials, both for his own studies and to distribute to rural pastors

  • Transport– ideally a motorbike – which would greatly increase his range of effectiveness

If you would like to help in any way, we would be very glad to hear from you.

Smile held a pastors’ conference at Jalahalli East Baptist Church in Bangalore in October 2007, which was attended by 150 pastors from the surrounding area. We have also supported the church’s ministry by sponsoring a women’s conference, and providing books for pastors and women

We also provided chickens for widows and needy families, and have provided Ooty Convent School with books and pencil kits to 400 children and sports equipment for the school (through our Gifts With Love scheme). Food has been distributed to the 50 poor families who live and work in a quarry, where their remuneration barely enables them to survive.

Smile’s aims for the future are to:

  • continue to provide theological training

  • provide a full time nurse to visit cancer patients in their homes

  • establish a clinic in the church

  • establish a pre-school for, initially, 50 children

  • explore the possibility of establishing a Smile orphanage

Pastor Samuel and his family accompanied Clive and Graham Garner to Sri Lanka in February 2008. He was greatly encouraged by his tour of Smile's projects there and is now better equipped to oversee Smile's projects in India. Please pray for further opportunities and finance to expand Smile's work in India, and for ongoing support for Pastor Samuel and his family.
