WHY SPONSOR A PASTOR?
There are many pastors and evangelists in poorer countries who face
great difficulties as they carry out their calling to ministry. Most are
living on very low incomes and the necessity for full-time work leaves
little time or funds for ministry duties and study of God’s Word. The
congregation often suffer the same poverty and are not able to provide
financial support.
In countries where Christians are a
minority group, the pastor may encounter suspicion, hostility or
persecution. Discrimination may lead to an increased level of poverty.
Your support will free a pastor to spend his time more fruitfully on the
Lord’s work.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
We have suggested monthly amounts (minimum
£20) but this may be increased to any amount. You may wish to undertake
sponsorship “until further notice” or you may indicate the time span of
your support, and then review or cease your sponsorship at the end of
that period. This information helps us to plan ahead and ensure that the
pastor continues to be supported via another sponsor.
CAN I HELP IN OTHER
WAYS?

You can give extra support to the
pastor in the form of letters and gifts, although very often it is
more cost-effective to buy gifts and materials in their country.

You and your church can uphold the
pastor and family in prayer regularly, and include reports in your
newsletter or prayer sheet.
BECOMING A SPONSOR
As a sponsor you will receive:
Individuals, school classes, clubs and
churches can sponsor a pastor. If you are more than one individual,
please send one payment on behalf of the group and allocate one person
to write for the group.
YOUR DONATION
Smile will use your donation for the
particular needs of the pastor and family, but typically your support
can provide:
Smile will always endeavour to match your
level of donation with a pastor’s need. The support or priority given to
any pastor will reflect personal and family circumstances, including
number of dependants and other sources of income.
