ZIMBABWE: Items for
Smile Vehicle
We would like to thank everyone
who has helped us with projects large and small over the years. We are
constantly both delighted and amazed at the generosity of our supporters, which
enables us to continue and expand our efforts to help those most in need around
the world – both those whose only hope is to look to the Lord for support, and
those who we hope may come to know His abundant provision in the future.
If you are able to help with any
of these items, please contact us on 01689 870932 or
info@smileinternational.org
KOSOVA
Mammography equipment
The high level of breast cancer in Kosova is believed by
some to be due to the presence of contaminants from unexploded and uncleared
mines in the region, after the war of 1999, exacerbated by poor health and high
stress levels among certain groups. Smile would like to be able to help combat
this disturbing rise in the incidence of breast cancer. Kosova's medical
facilities are inadequate by our standards and treatment difficult to obtain for
those who are not well-off, and out of reach for the many poor. If you can help
us obtain the necessary mammography equipment to send out, we would be most
interested to hear from you.
If you would like to use your
medical/nursing/dental skills to help those who have little or no access to good
medical care, you may wish to join one of our
ministry trips
or discuss with us a longer-term stay, either in Kosova or elsewhere on one of
our health care projects.
Land Rover
This would be used at the Kosova Smile Centre to transport
aid, goods and personnel. This type of vehicle is a necessity as the roads are
not always of a good standard and can be very difficult in the mountains,
especially in the winter months of the year.
SRI LANKA
Minibus
We need to purchase a minibus to help
with transporting teams and aid around the island. This could be bought in Sri
Lanka and would cost approximately £6,000.
Any help that you could give us would be greatly valued.
UK
Truck
Lorries and articulated trucks are needed several times a year as we sent aid
out to the Balkans therefore any help with this provision in the future would be
greatly appreciated.
Van for Smile Office
The provision of a van would aid us greatly at
the Smile office in Kent, to help with transporting aid.
Needlework
banners
We would very much like to have needlework
Bible verse banners to enhance the Smile Centres in Kosova and Sri
Lanka. If you know of anyone in your church who would like to help or
you yourself would like to make such a banner, we would be delighted to
hear from you, with an indication of your proposed design.
New
office and warehouse
Our current accommodation is a small building in Orpington, Kent,
together with various temporary storage areas (garages, barns, etc)
within the area. The Lord has blessed our work to the extent that this
arrangement is no longer efficient or effective. Because of existing
staff and our volunteer base, we are looking for new premises within a
3-5 mile radius of our current building. The ideal is about 10,000 sq ft
of space for aid sorting, checking, storage and packing, and 1,000 sq ft
of office space. The premises would also need to be accessible for
direct loading of our trucks. Please contact the Smile office if you are
aware of any such facilities.
ZIMBABWE
Items for Smile Vehicle
Our Project Manager in Zimbabwe John Matiza is in need of a canopy and towbar
for the Smile vehicle, which he uses to minister and deliver aid in the region,
as well as fetch supplies for Smile's feeding programmes. The canopy will
protect passengers and goods during the rainy season, which starts in October,
and the towing gear will enable him to use a trailer, thus increasing the
effectiveness of his journeys:
Canopy for truck £718
Rhino-line £360
Tow-hitch £576
Tow-ball and electrics £162
If you wish to contribute to the cost of these essential items, please see our
Donations page for methods of giving, and mark your
donation "Zimbabwe vehicle".
