With this month being the month for celebrating harvest, it is good to remember how blessed we are, and how grateful we should remain for all that we have. It’s always good to count our blessings and harvest time is a good time to focus on this even more. There are so many people less fortunate than us and we have so much available to us, that it’s a great opportunity to be able to give back and be generous with what we have. There’s a famous saying which says: we make a living by what we get, but we make a life but what we give. We think it is always good practice to stop and think just how truly blessed we are compared to so many people around the world and how we can help make a difference.

It is expected that we have three meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner and we fill the in between times with an array of different snacks. We make hot drinks as often as we like throughout the day and have water, literally on tap. The choice we have for everything is incredible and things are becoming increasingly more accessible. This is not the way for many of the people we help through Smile and so our aim is to feed as many people as we can and provide them with food they can cook with or a meal. Over the years we have asked people how we can best help them and most of the time, the answer is access to food. For people who live in remote, rural villages, just travelling to get food is such a hardship. The roads are dusty, undulating and long, the heat is unbearable, and the price of basic staple ingredients is too high. Some people try and eat something once every two days just to make supplies last.

We are asking you today, this harvest time, to please help put food on the table of those who are struggling to eat. In the countries where we work, there are no food banks, no school meal vouchers, no reduced items, they simply do not have anything. If for a moment you can please try and put yourself in their position and give however much you can, to help people receive food they so desperately need, we would be so grateful.
