Meet Miriam, she is 9 years old, and walks 6 dusty kilometres a day to get herself and her disabled brother to school. She has her lessons in the morning and during her lunch break, walks back home to collect her brother. Miriam carries him on her back because they don’t have a wheelchair for him and makes sure he’s back to school for his lessons. They then return home together in the evening.

Miriam is so grateful and happy to be sponsored by Smile and feels privileged to be receiving an education. The family is extremely poor, and she is desperate for her brother to be sponsored too as a matter of urgency.

There are still so many children that do not have the opportunity to attend school, to learn to read and write, but together, we can change this. The answer is simple, investing in the life of a precious child, making life choices possible for them and helping them to see there’s more to the world than they think.
